The British Red Ensign, sometimes called the Meteor Flag of Old England,was established by Queen Anne in 1707 as the National Emblem of Great Britain. It served as an early flag over the American colony and later the banner used by British troops during the American Revolution. On October 19, 1781, General Cornwallis surrendered under the British Red Ensign.
