The Flag of the Basque Lands, also known as the Ikurrina flag was designed by Luis Arana and Sabino Arana in the 19th century and was adopted on December 18th, 1978. This flag has a long and strange history, created in 1894 to actually represent Biscay, it was adopted by the EAJ-PNV party in 1895. Eventually, it was proposed as the flag of the entire Basque area. However, this adoption was short lived, as France would conqueror the Basque Lands and would ban this flag from 1938 to 1977.
