Designed for the serious sailor, Alaska courtesy flags are 100% marine-tough nylon, manufacturd to withstand damaging sun, wind and salt exposure.  Bright colors, finished with canvas heading and solid brass grommets.  12" x 18".  Made in America.

The Alaska state flag was designed by thirteen year-old John Bell (Benny) Benson from Chignik, Alaska.  Benny had won a contest in 1927 open to schoolchildren in grades seven through twelve sponsored by the Alaska American Legion.  The blue background represents the sky.  On the background Benny placed eight gold stars to represent the Big Dipper and the North Star.
