Copper is king in Arizona, thus the copper colored star in the center of the flag.  The thirteen red and gold rays symbolize the original thirteen states.  The colors represent the blazing sun setting over the desert as well as the colors of the first settlers from Spain.  The dark blue lower portion of the flag stands for loyalty to the United States.
