Sudan Flag

The flag of Sudan was officially approved May 20, 1970.  The four colors on the flag - red, white, black and green - are traditional Pan Arab colors, ones that have been associated with this part of the world for centuries.  Red stands for Sudan's many battles for its own independence, white symbolizes hope and harmony, black is the color of the country itself (in fact, Sudan means black in the Arabic language).  Green represents Islam and agriculture.
