Romania Flag
Romania gained independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1877 and with some modifications this has been the country's flag since that time. The original design showed horizontal stripes, this was changed to the present vertical design after influence from the French flag. The colored stripes symbolize Moldova and Walachia, the two principalities that united to form Romania in 1859.
